Welcome to the 1st Jame Blam! The only game jam that makes your brain jam.

The rules are simple:

1. Your game must be inherently stupid, dumb, funny, quirky, janky, and/or silly in some way. The worse, the better.

2. Your game must be playable, and still fun/enjoyable. Despite how much focus should be put on the quality (or lack thereof) of your game, it should also have a strong focus on the player being able to enjoy it.

3. Traditional controls are discouraged, but allowed. Make it weird, in style, and in gameplay! Your game should also be a tad bit visually, audibly, and overall unappealing to the player. Take Cruelty Squad as an example of this.

4. The "weirdness" or "funny" to your game should NOT be completely themed around a current trend, meme, or overused/popular joke.

5. Your game must not include: references to real-world racism (elves vs. dwarves, etc. is fine), hate speech, bigotry (homophobia, transphobia, etc.), defamation, or an over abundance of the following: politics (and modern-world political issues), religion, sexual content, or gore.

6. The following is allowed if and only if you provide a visible and clearly understood warning at the beginning of your game, which will require input from the player to dismiss: flashing lights, psychological horror, self-harm, drug/alcohol use, sexual content, excessively vulgar language, or gore.

7. Content created by AI must not be used in any way other than for inspiration or reference. All work should be either open-source or legally yours to use. Any art, music, code, or assets that you've already made/had may be used, but you should not make any content ahead of time that's specifically for this jam.

8. Your game must be playable on a Windows System OR in-browser, with nothing more than a keyboard and mouse. You should not require the player to download/use any additional hardware, content, or external files for the game to run/play properly/as intended.

9.  :3

10. Most importantly of all, your game must be unique, or include a prominent and unique mechanic that sets it apart from other games.

You may work in teams of up to 4 people. Only one account/person needs to upload the game to the jam, but any other contributors should be listed in the form of a link to their itch.io page. If they do not have an itch.io page, just credit them however you can.

The following themes are especially encouraged to be included within your game:

  • Excessive humor (yes.)
  • Wacky sounds/visuals
  • Sounds that don't necessarily correlate with the gameplay
  • Purposely strange/bad/"unique" music
  • Something that has been created with the purpose of eliciting a visceral reaction from the viewer
  • Randomness/things that are out of the style/theme of the game
  • Nonsense/YTP-style ridiculousness
