Welcome

To celebrate the launch of Horror Game Kit 1.5, we’re bringing you a new type of challenge! We’re providing detailed theme settings to help you enhance your game development skills by incorporating popular elements in horror game design.

Plus, you'll learn to promote your game by completing a video creation task.

Theme

Alien Abduction

Background

Dive into the dark and terrifying depths of Sci-Fi Horror with the theme of alien encounters in this game jam. With the latest update to the horror game template, including the new Screen Effect Package, you now have the tools to create an atmospheric and chilling experience that captures the cold dread of the unknown. We invite all creators to experiment with these new effects to craft a sci-fi horror game that is truly out of this world.

In this game jam, you’ll create a horror game based on the theme of alien abduction. The player could be a lone astronaut stranded on a distant planet, a scientist trapped in a research facility under siege by extraterrestrial beings, or an ordinary person who becomes the target of a nightmarish alien experiment. The game will take place in a cold, eerie setting where the line between reality and the otherworldly is blurred by the presence of alien life forms. Using elements of Sci-Fi Horror, creators will build an environment filled with high tension, unsettling sounds, and disturbing visuals.

Key Elements to Include:

  • Sci-Fi Horror Aesthetics: Utilize the Screen Effect Package to introduce visual distortions, glitches, and atmospheric lighting effects that add to the sense of dread and unease. Alien influences should feel unsettling and uncanny, amplifying the sense of the unknown.
  • Story Background: Please create your own storyline that fits the theme.
  • Survival Horror Mechanics: Players must navigate through dark corridors, abandoned facilities, or alien landscapes while managing limited resources and staying alert for alien threats.
  • Exploration and Puzzle-Solving: Encourage exploration and discovery as players gather clues, solve puzzles, and piece together the mystery of the alien presence and their intent.
  • Psychological Horror: Create an atmosphere that keeps players constantly on edge, using sound design, visual effects, and storytelling to build tension and fear of the unknown.

Hints:

  1.  Explore the principles of Anomaly Horror to understand how to effectively use unpredictable elements to create a sense of fear and unease.
  2.  Leverage the Screen Effect Package to enhance the feeling of a world disrupted by anomalies, using visual and auditory distortions to amplify the horror.
  3.  Design gameplay that keeps players on their toes, with anomalies that evolve and escalate, forcing them to continually adapt and reassess their strategies.

For example, if the number of downloads reaches 100, we will offer a reward of 10USD$; If it reaches 200, we will offer a reward of 20USD$. The upper limit of the bonus is 50USD$. We will conduct data statistics according to the download data within 7 days after the end of each Game jam.
