This event will give you 9 days to create a multiplayer game using GDevelop, the free and open-source game engine.
For the duration of the jam, all games will have the full GDevelop Multiplayer features!
This means unlimited lobbies and up 8 players per lobby.
No need to start from scratch! You can just open one of the FREE multiplayer templates, in which all of the multiplayer stuff is all set up for you, follow our new easy-to-use template customizer to make the game your own, and you're off to the races!
If you prefer, however, you can make any kind of game you like by accessing the multiplayer documentation
to find written and video tutorials [1] [2].
Once the submission period is over, your game will get rated by other participants, and you will also get to rate other games. The GDevelop Game Jam will be a fun, diverse, and inclusive event in which you'll get to put your skills to the test. There will be participants from all over the world, and you will have the opportunity to chat with other developers, discuss each other's games and of course, create a game from start to finish!
You need to register for the event right here on itch.io in order to participate. Please also join our Discord server for more information and notifications regarding the jam, and to meet the other participants.
Whether you finish your game or not, you'll have an amazing experience, learn tons and meet cool people from around the world!
To be announced at the start of the jam
Acceptable use of pre-existing code:
-Multiplayer templates
-Reuse of UI
-Reuse of private extensions
-Reuse of short snippets of events (Juice effects, for example)
Not acceptable use of pre-existing code:
-Reuse of an existing project with minimal changes
-Submission of a project worked on prior to the jam
Creating games with other people is a fantastic experience and is also very helpful to reach the end of the jam with a finished game, so do think about teaming up if you haven't. And if you're new to making games, we've created a page to help with Best practices and How to Make a Good Game: 5 Tips & Mistakes to Avoid.
Don’t worry about this too much, though. The most important thing is that you participate, have fun, and stick to the jam’s theme! Once the submission period is closed, you will have one week to rate other people’s games.
The 10 games with the highest overall scores will be declared Community Winners.
All developers involved in creating these games will get the opportunity to be considered for the Judges’ Awards.
Teams behind the top 10 community-voted games will receive 1,000 in-engine credits (Read the FAQ for distribution), and each team member will receive a special Game Jam Winner Discord role.
All 5 games picked for the Judges’ Awards will be featured on gd.games for 7 days. Each team member will receive the special Game Jam Winner Discord role, and each team will be given the following prizes (Read the FAQ for the shares).

2nd Place:

This jam is sponsored in part by Aseprite, and Spine!
Aseprite is a pixel art and animation software used for creating and editing pixel-based images and animations.
Spine is a 2D animation software primarily used to create skeletal animations for video games.
The prizes will be shared in an email with you and all your teammates, then you and your team are responsible for splitting the prize among you. Except for the cash prize, the subscriptions and for the GDevelop credits.
- The cash prize, is sent to one unique person who is the leader of the team (The leader is the person who submitted the game on itch.io). GDevelop doesn't split the cash, it's up to the team to deal with that once the leader receive the transfer.
- If this event offers rewards such as GDevelop subscriptions, the subscriptions will be given to each participant. They can activate their code themselves by following this activation process.
- The GDevelop credits, are equally shared among the number of members who team up. If a GDevelop account is missing as author of the game when you publish the game on gd.games, the credits won't be given for this missing user nor shared to the other teammates. This way, the missing user can claim their credits whenever they wish, once they have their GDevelop account.
We are using PayPal to do the cash transfers. If the winner(s) do not possess a valid PayPal account, we will do our utmost to accommodate other payment methods. If you win, you can also choose not to claim the prize and instead give it to a charity of your choice.
Yes, you need to upload your game on itch.io for scoring to take place, and we also ask everyone to publish on gd.games (as this is the recommended place for GDevelop games and to get feedback from the community). Publishing on itch.io and gd.games is a requirement for this jam. Note, you can add the genre "Game Jam 6" when you export your game on gd.games to be included in the Game Jams category!
No, you are not limited to the new built-in multiplayer systems in GDevelop. You can add multiplayer to your game using any framework, like THNK or any other method of networking games.
You'll get "Latest jam winner" for a few weeks and then "Past jam(s) winner" for life!
