Hello, and welcome to the first edition of the Choose a Song Jam! This jam is brought to you by Magikya Studios!

Our objective with this jam (which might not be the only jam we do!) is to get people to have fun and get inspired with their favorite songs! This jam is all about music, but you don't need to make a rhythm game for it! In fact, you don't even have to make a videogame: tabletop games, zines, comics and asset packs are also allowed! Just be sure to read the rules below.

THE THEME

The theme is basically any song that you want to use to inspire your entry. For more info, check Rule 1!

THE RULES

  1. Make sure your entry is based on a song! This song must not be made by you and should be an existing song of any kind (Not necessarily mainstream or vocal songs; VGM and instrumental songs are great options too!).
  2. This jam is NOT ranked, and doesn't have any prizes at all. This is NOT a competition. We're just doing this for fun! Want to work on an old project you haven't finished yet but is inspired by a song? Go for it! Wanna make an entry specific to the jam! Go for it!!
  3. Don't use stuff you don't have the permission to use. This includes copyrighted material. (Feel free to use premade game assets you have the permission to use though!)
  4. Feel free to give feedback to other entries in the jam! Be sure to do it RESPECTFULLY though! (Basically, don't be rude when giving your opinion on others' games!)
  5. NO NSFW/+18 GAMES. This means no nudity, sexual themes, sex scenes and pornographic material overall. Mild blood and violence is okay, but NO extreme/realistic gore. Swearing in dialogue is fine, slurs and discrimination to any group are NOT. Your game can have more serious themes or topics, but try to keep it PG-13!
  6. The following entry types are allowed: Videogames, tabletop/physical games, tools, asset packs, zines, and comics.
  7. Multiple entries are allowed! Go wild with your imagination and designer power! You can do it!! (Just don't spam entries if they are NOT related to this jam)
  8. The jam entry must be of easy access at least to us (Magikya Studios) so we can moderate the entries (AKA, to make sure the entries are appropiate for this jam and are not breaking any rules). It's preferred that you make the game free, free with optional donations or paid with community copies, but if you want to make your entry completely paid PLEASE send us a key so we can play/check it out/moderate it! If you don't, we will sadly have to remove the entry.
  9. Be respectful, to both the jam and the people participating in it. Absolutely DON'T SPAM UNRELATED ENTRIES TO MULTIPLE JAMS JUST FOR PROMOTION OR FOR ANY REASON OVERALL.
  10. Don't crunch!! Be sure to do your daily life, take rests often and have fun! If your entry is unfinished near the end of the jam, don't worry! Submit it either way!
  11. Please follow these rules, and, if you join the Discord, follow the rules there aswell. Thank you in advance.

Sorry for the long list of rules! We just want to make sure this jam is a friendly and fun space for everyone ;u;

Thanks for checking our jam out! We'll be leaving a month for you to make and submit your entry (and you can start earlier if you need), so take it easy, don't stress and most importantly, have fun!

If you need help in stuff like getting recommendations for tools and engines, have any questions or are looking for a team, feel free to ask in the Community board or the Discord server! We want this jam to be as beginner-friendly as it can be.

Like we mentioned before, we have a Discord server you can join in case you want to form teams, get help, meet other people and just chill overall! It has opened specifically with this jam's moment of posting, so if you only see the Magikya Studios team and some music bots there, that's why :'D hope to see you there and populate the server eventually!!

Join our Discord server here!

Take care, and have fun!

Also! A fun fact: This jam was inspired by the song Tragedy by the Bee Gees. Why? I don't know, just came to me while daydreaming and listening to it LOL
